The students here at LSU rely heavily on the members of student government to help give us a voice in life on campus, a hand in making a difference in our college lives and an opportunity to better our experience here at LSU.

This is not a platform to show off and embarrass yourself publicly; this is a process to be taken earnestly and purposefully. There is no point in bothering yourself with the formalities of an election. If you only aspire to mock it, you will not be taken seriously, and you will not win.

Find another time and place to continue with your ridiculous and highly offensive antics, for they will not garner you any admiration or esteem from your self-respecting peers at LSU.

Kudos to Russ Feingold, finally a Senator willing to work. Let us remember that Russ merely called for censure not impeachment. The American people impeached Bill Clinton for lying about oral sex. Who hasn’t lied, on both the giving and receiving end?

First the American people were lied to about the WMD issue. Nobody seemed to care that this lie is costing billions of dollars and thousands of lives. Money and humans that could have helped save the Gulf Coast. Oh, Halliburton, please start repairing levees.

Some claim that the censure sends the message that the United States is weak on terrorism. Sectarian violence and taking down the “Mission Accomplished” banner shows that we are not as strong as we thought. The censure sends a positive message to Iraq. Citizens of a democracy are allowed freedom of speech and right to petition the government on their own and through elected officials, not car bombs and flag burning.

I realize that by writing for truth and credibility from the White House, I run many risks. There could be a smear campaign about my alleged interracial child (i.e. John McCain), or I could be placed on the No-Fly List (i.e. James Moore, author of Bush’s Brain) but it is better than being lied to.

Maybe we should just become accustomed to being lied to and accept it. Our inability to hold George Bush accountable has allowed his approval rating to fall to 36 percent, shame on you Americans. Let’s show we have a spine because lawmakers have lost theirs, mainly Democrats.

George promised to be a “Uniter, not a Divider.” Now it is time to unite and help get George’s approval rating. Clinton left office with 65 percent of America liking him, a stained blue dress and a surplus of $70 billion. We can do better for George, and W never forgets a friend.

Much criticism has been pointed at the carpool lot over the past few weeks, some of which has merit, some of which does not. Contrary to what Bryan Beyer says, the Parking office actually issued 315 tags for the 202 space carpool lot and has issued over 2400 parking tickets to violators in that parking lot.

It is also a fact that the lot, a creation of Student Government and the Parking, Traffic and Transportation office last summer, is often seen half full while students who park in the main CEBA lot walk by. We recognize this and are working on ways to improve the usage so that the lot meets its purpose of encouraging carpooling. However, the critics have called for the existing carpool concept to be completely terminated, while at the same time supporting the general idea of carpooling. We cannot agree with this. We should not do away with the carpool lot simply because it does not work exactly like we envisioned. Instead, we should see this as an opportunity to improve something on our campus.

SG has invited a group of business and engineering students, including Mr. Beyer, to make recommendations to the Director of Parking, Traffic and Transportation on how the carpool lot should be operated next year, and we welcome input from everyone on this issue.

Please feel free to email us at sg@lsu.edu, call 578-8727 or stop by 324 Union to offer your input on the carpool lot or any other campus issue.
