DES MOINES — The Iowa Senate is expected to debate legislation today that would lock up sex offenders whose victims are children for at least 25 years and possibly for life.

It’s one of several high-profile measures hanging in the balance as the Legislature’s second so-called “funnel” deadline approaches. House bills that have failed to win approval in a Senate committee and vice versa by Friday are tossed onto the Statehouse scrap heap.
