Women make 80% of the salaries their male peers do one year after college -- and after 10 years in the workforce, the gap between their pay widens further, according to a study to be released today by the American Association of University Women's Educational Foundation.

Even after controlling for hours, occupation, parenthood and other factors known to affect earnings, the study found that a quarter of the pay gap remains unexplained. The group said that portion is "likely due to sex discrimination."

Catherine Hill, director of research, said: "Part of the wage difference is a result of people's choices, another part is employers' assumptions of what people's choices will be."

Kenneth Glenn Hinson insisted on the witness stand Sunday that he was telling the truth and denied raping two teenage girls in an underground room he built behind his home.

Hinson reiterated what he told the jury Saturday -- that sex he had with two 17-year-old girls in March 2006 was consensual and that he hid from police for four days because he thought they wanted him on drug charges. Hinson said he built the room for packaging marijuana.

The two girls have testified that Hinson took them from a nearby home where they slept and dragged them to the secret room. A witness said he overheard one of the teens say they made up the story because they had stolen marijuana from Hinson and were afraid he would retaliate.

Millender-McDonald is the second member of Congress to die this year of cancer. Republican Rep. Charles Norwood Jr. of Georgia died in February after battling cancer and lung disease.
